What to expect while you’re healing
Powder Brows
First Day:
The tattooed area is fresh and the colour will appear vibrant and saturated. Some redness or tenderness in the area is to be expected (feels kind of like a sunburn.) The pigment colour may also have a warm orange-yellow or red tone which will neutralize and cool down as it starts to heal.
Day 2-3:
The tattooed area will appear darker in colour and any redness should subside.
Day 4-7:
The skin will begin to scab over the treated area during this time. Flaking and itchiness is to be expected. Do not rub, scratch or pick at the treated area.
Day 7 onward:
The tattoo may look VERY faded, milky in colour or almost gone. There’s a thin layer of fresh skin healing over the tattoo and making it difficult to see the pigment underneath. Your pigment will reappear within a few days. This is the stage that typically causes concern but is normal and to be expected. It is also normal if this happens before day 7 as everyone heals at a different pace.
*note: these timelines vary from person to person. Some of these phases may happen long before or after what’s stated above. Use this as a general guide.
Things to note
Keep an Open Mind
During your healing period, many things can happen. The top layer of pigment may flake or come off early, or it may hold on much longer. You may retain a lot of colour or you may lose most of it and they could look like they’ve disappeared. It’s important to let the healing process do its thing, whatever that may look like.
Aftercare
We break down the steps you need to take for after your appointment and trust you will follow them. Being proactive and responsible with these steps will help your healing process go as smooth as possible.
Everyone is Different
As artists, we will explain what the healing process will typically look like but everyone’s skin is different which means we cannot give you an exact breakdown of what to expect. We also caution everyone against comparing this part of the process to friends or others - their journey might (and very likely will) be different from yours. This is why keeping an open mind is so important!
There is a Follow-up Appointment for a Reason
The reason a follow up/ touch up appointment exists is because we have to build up the pigment and colour over the course of two sessions. We expect a good amount of fading to happen after only one visit.
When you come in for your touch up, we will look at your brows and see how your skin has retained pigment. This information will let us know what’s necessary to move forward.
Respect and Trust Your Artist
You chose your artist for a reason: They have a process that works well for them so you should trust they have your best interest in mind.
If you have questions during the healing process, email your artist with your questions.
Aftercare Instructions
Day of Appointment
Use provided cotton pads to wipe the treated area every 90 minutes after your appointment until bedtime.
Day 2-4:
AM and PM - With clean hands, use tattoo cleanser to gently wash the treated area. Rinse and pat dry with cotton pad. Follow with a thin layer of ointment.
Day 5-7:
PM only - With clean hands, use tattoo cleanser to gently wash the treated area. Rinse and pat dry with cotton pad. Follow with a thin layer of ointment.
Notes:
Hands must be thoroughly cleaned
Do not overuse the ointment as it can suffocate the skin
Keep the tattoo cleanser and ointment on hand for future touch ups
What to Avoid
Sweating and Hot Showers
Avoid sweating, working out and hot steamy showers for 7 days. Why? Saline is used to remove tattoos so sweating will fade your new tattoo considerably.
Sun Exposure
Sun exposure can severely compromise the colour of the tattoo and the skins ability to heal effectively.
Makeup and Product
No skincare products or makeup on or around the treated area for 7 days. The tattoo needs to be free from potential bacteria or contaminants in order to heal properly.
Picking or Touching
Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of pigment.
Cosmetic Treatments
No Facials, botox, chemical treatments for 4 weeks.
