FAQs
-
Permanent makeup, also referred to as semi-permanent makeup, cosmetic tattooing or micropigmentation, is the process of implanting pigment beneath the surface of the skin using tiny, sterile, disposable needles.
-
As soon as pigment enters the skin, there’s no guarantee it will ever be gone completely. The techniques being labelled as ‘semi-permanent’ refers more to clients coming in for touch ups due to the natural fading that occurs over time. The pigment is placed just below the surface of the skin and is designed to gently fade over time. Fading is actually encouraged as it preserves the integrity of the skin and allows the artist to make changes to colour and shape over the years, keeping things looking soft and natural.
-
The answer is dependent on a few things: your skin type and how you care for the tattoo long term. Someone with oily or thicker skin will fade quicker than someone with normal/ dry, thin or mature skin. Wearing SPF 30+, and avoiding any acids or retinoids on the tattooed area will keep things fresher for longer. Keeping your skin healthy and out of the sun is the absolute best way to preserve your permanent makeup. Clients can go between 1 to 3 years before needing a touch up.
-
There are two sessions. At the end of your first session, we will book you in for your second session (touch up) 6 weeks later. The reason for the two sessions is to build up the right amount of colour and saturation over two appointments instead of all at once. This also allows us to be conservative at the first appointment and can perfect or add/ adjust at the second session as necessary. This is especially helpful for clients that are a bit more nervous.
-
Your appointment length will depend on the procedure and the artist. Appointments can be anywhere from 2-3 hours. We recommend giving yourself lots of time on the day of your appointment and not have any time sensitive plans afterward. Feel free to ask your artist about timing ahead of time!
-
Of course it’s different for everyone but 98% of clients rate the pain a 3/10. Topical anesthetic is applied during the procedure to make sure you're as comfortable as possible. Any minor discomfort you may feel is within the first 5-10 minutes of the procedure before the anesthetic is applied, then the rest of the procedure is a walk in the park! All our clients say that tweezing is worse than the actual tattoo itself!
-
If you had previous permanent makeup done at another studio, we will always have to see photos before you book with us. We’ll have to do an assessment before accepting you as a client. Emailing us is the best place to start.
